   Scholar, teacher, and philologist, noted for his translations of Latin authors, e.g., Cato the Elder, Cicero, Caesar, Boethius, and Augustine (q.v.), for his collection of epigrams included in the Greek Anthology (q.v.), as well as for his letters and other writings.
